FORS Professional recently launched TruckSmart, a fleet manager focused toolkit which includes guidance for managers, classroom training for drivers and is supported by an eLearning module.
The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) accredited classroom training is a seven-hour session suitable for all commercial HGV drivers, and focuses on the skills needed to achieve full compliance with regulations, and keep vehicles safe and roadworthy at all times.
Places for the 28 fully funded TruckSmart classroom training courses, which are available nationwide, are filling up fast. There are just a few places left on the first TruckSmart course running on Monday 25 October in London. To view all other dates and to book your place, please click here.
The TruckSmart toolkit, which is free to access for FORS members, contains a range of resources and materials for internal communications, to help managers adopt industry best practice, and develop and implement an HGV safety system within their organisation. The guidance in the toolkit is aligned with the FORS Standard, and covers specific requirements such as safely loading vehicles and vehicle checks.
Complementing the toolkit and classroom sessions is a new eLearning module. Acting as a means of both refreshing and testing key information taught in the face-to-face training, it also fully aligns with the toolkit messages. The module is designed for HGV drivers, but will benefit van and commercial drivers across all sectors. It can also be used by fleet managers to gain a first-hand experience of the material they are asking their drivers to study. To access the eLearning module, please click here.
FORS requirement V5 Safe loading and load restraints states that fleet operators shall ensure that vehicles are safely loaded, that appropriate load restraints are used and that vehicles are not overloaded. FORS requirement V2 Defect checks states that fleet operators shall ensure that vehicles are checked before the first use of that vehicle in a driver’s shift. The TruckSmart toolkit is intended to assist fleet managers to achieve all requirements in this area. To access the toolkit, please click here.
