Places on the funded vehicle safety-related TruckSmart classroom training courses are still available in Glasgow and nationwide – but filling up fast, so don’t delay securing places for your drivers.
TruckSmart driver training is a seven-hour course for all commercial HGV drivers, regardless of their area of operation, that focuses on the importance of driving roadworthy HGVs and the role of the driver in ensuring that vehicles and loads are safe and legal at all times.
FORS members can also benefit from the TruckSmart toolkit developed to complement the classroom training, containing a range of resources and materials to help managers adopt industry best practice, including posters which can be downloaded and used in your staff room to share the TruckSmart messages.
There is also a TruckSmart eLearning module to refresh and test key information taught in the classroom.
The TruckSmart training and toolkit can assist operators in meeting FORS requirement V5 ‘Safe loading and load restraints’, which states that fleet operators shall ensure that vehicles are safely loaded, that appropriate load restraints are used and that vehicles are not overloaded. It will also help operators to meet requirement V2 ‘Defect checks’, which states that fleet operators shall ensure that vehicles are checked before the first use of that vehicle in a driver’s shift.
